This is a fairly common question I get, particularly when it comes to diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaning. I’m not sure I have a definitive answer for you, but I do know that it is best to do it every so often.
A couple of years ago I used to use a very specific kind of diesel filter that was called a carbon filter, which when you wash the filter is called a carbon-fibre filter. The filter was made in a special-model filter that had the same sort of characteristics as a natural paper filter, but it was made in the United States. The filter itself was made by a company called Wix, which has had a lot of success with diesel particulate filters.
My brother is a professional engineer and he says that it is important to buy diesel particulate filters that have the same filter characteristics as paper filters. He says you can use any filter and you are not likely to notice any difference. He also says that when you wash the filter it is important to wash it with a specific detergent combination, which is called a “detergent blend.
As it turns out, diesel particulate filters don’t just have paper filters. They have something called a “filtration cake,” which is basically a filter paper impregnated with a detergent, so that when you wash the filter, it becomes more hygroscopic. The detergent also makes the paper more porous and the paper itself has a different chemical composition.
The reason why this is important is that it will help get the particulate particles out of your car. If a car is running on diesel particulate filter and you run a car battery with a regular car battery, you can see the diesel particulate particles in the engine.
