It’s too cold to bare. It seems like all my friends are eating steak and snow these days, but I’m here in Texas where the climate is much more mild. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the outdoors with a little creativity! Here are 11 genius ways to eat outside in the winter for those of you who reside in climates similar to mine.
1) Hot Cocoa Bar: Make your own hot chocolate bar with toppings such as whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows and cinnamon sticks. Guests will be able to grab their favorite ingredients from our self-serve station while enjoying views of your home or yard.
2) Picnic Underneath a Tree: Pack up some sandwiches, chips, and cookies for a winter picnic under one of your favorite trees. Wrap all the goods in blankets to keep them warm while you enjoy nature’s beauty.
Some other ideas:
Cook a pizza on the grill or in the oven and eat it outside
Host an ice cream social. Fill your freezer with different flavors of homemade (or store bought) ice cream, then offer bowls to all of your friends while they lounge around watching movies outdoors.
Serve brunch at your house for all of your guests who want to enjoy breakfast foods together but don’t feel like going out into the cold winter morning air. They can still be stylish by wearing their pajamas! :)
Cook on the grill: This is a great way to enjoy warm food during cold weather. Use your favorite recipes and serve everything outside to keep it nice and hot while you eat.
Serve Hot Drinks: Let’s be honest, winter isn’t all that bad when we have our morning coffee or tea with breakfast in front of the fire place! Set up a table next to an outdoor fireplace for guests who want some warmth early in the day too.
Make sure not to forget about soup – if you’re feeling adventurous make one yourself using vegetable stock instead of water for added flavor and nutrients! You can also buy canned soups from grocery stores which will work just as well outdoors.
Shop at farmers markets: Take your favorite person and head to a nearby farmer’s market for fresh produce, meat, eggs, or dairy products. If you’re in the mood of cooking up some pasta dishes or comfort food – these are all great ingredients to start off with!
Head outdoors on foot: Of course it is going to be cold outside but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy nature. Bundle yourself up nice and warmly so you don’t have any trouble walking around. Pack snacks too if you want them out there!
Plan an excursion near a body of water: This way when winter weather gets tough, going down towards the edge of the river will make everyone feel cozy again. Sometimes all you need is a little water.
Build your own snowman: If it’s the perfect time of year to build one, have fun with all of the family and make some memories! Enjoy that cool winter air while we still can before everything starts feeling like marshmallow fluff.
Go for hikes in nature: Pack up whatever you want to take with you whether it be hot cocoa or trail mix – there are so many options when hiking outside during this season since we don’t know what will show up! It’ll be worth every second spent out in the cold once we get back inside again.
Cook something new outdoors: Sometimes experimenting on new recipes isn’t as easy indoors because nothing turns into an instant disaster. Find something new to cook on the grill, over a fire or in the oven and enjoy all of that delicious food with some hot cocoa.
Have friends over: Whether it’s for a game night where we have to stay inside but can’t keep our hands warm enough, or just hanging out around a bonfire – winter is an amazing time to have your loved ones close by while you still can!
Do yoga outside: There are so many benefits from being outdoors during this season like getting vitamin D (from sunshine!), increased blood flow and even reduced stress levels after spending time doing yoga .
