When I was a little girl, my grandma would always tell me that life is what you make of it. She told me to take the negative and turn it into something beautiful. This past week, we had our first musical therapy session with Jeffery Mancuso, and he told us how important music is in his life. He said “music can heal.” Apparently even if we don’t know where to go or what to do with our lives, music will help guide us on the right path. Even though we may not be able to find out who we are just yet, there’s something about being able to express ourselves musically that helps people figure themselves out.
“I was going through a really hard time in life, and I felt like there’s nothing left for me anymore. Music is what kept me alive when my heart was so full of pain.”
Music can heal people when they’re down or feeling lost. It doesn’t matter if we feel alone there will always be someone who understands us. It’s not about the journey but how you make that journey your own thing, which is something Jeffery told us at this past musical therapy session with him. He said “music has helped me become myself,” he’d never want to do anything else than play music as his career!
The musical therapy of ‘When Will My Life Begin’ is as therapeutic as a song can get. The Disney movie Tangled has an extremely emotional and heart-wrenching soundtrack, yet it’s also filled with joyous music. “When Will My Life Begin?” is one of the saddest songs in the film, but it still manages to be upbeat thanks to its happy lyrics about starting over again. This song welcomes listeners into a new chapter of their lives, which is why it has become such a popular track for people who are going through life changes or struggling to see how they fit into their current situation anymore.
